Adult Acne

My skin has been and still is the bane of my existence sometimes. I thought teenagers got acne, and then it packed its bags and left, never to return, but NO!

My face, my body… I now get spots in places I didn’t even know I had skin capable of producing spots. Having tried every Pinterest hack, I should have shares in Boots and Superdrug skincare ranges. I’ve tried scrubbing, plain water and tablets from my doctor.

Having lost weight and everything heading to my knees, I need to keep under all of the mounds of flesh clean, as even just a smidge of infection and I’m up shit creek!

9Every month my hormonal spots raise their ugly white heads. Not to mention the dry patches, oily patches and pores than I’m sure a small dog could drown in.

Suffering from PCOS also means I remove hair from my face (mainly so I don’t make men feel jealous of my bushy beard!), which I assume doesn’t help.

Having spots is seen as a flaw, but I’m sure most women spend so much money covering them, trying to get rid of them I know I do. Maybe if I let my face breathe, it might make my skin better?

What are your top skin tips?

Love Sooz x

Acne comes for many reasons. Few products in the market do not work as per what they claim. I also had the same issue. But after experimenting lots of product. Finally acne.org regimen helped me. But it has a strict procedure to follow.

Have you ever had a referral to a dermatologist? In our family we have various skin issues and getting to see an actual dermatologist (rather than a go) has helped to prescribe the correct course of action that has sorted out skin problems in a week or two that have plagued for months if not longer.

I don’t get acne, but I do occasionally get spots (still) in weird places, like my legs or my stomach. I don’t do a lot of skincare as a man, apart from a bit of moisturising, but one thing that I always find is how well my skin feels after I’ve been sweating heavily at the gym!

I’m 61 and still have breakouts! They aren’t associated with my hormones anymore, but now I get these things called “milia” which are basically white heads that just sit beneath the top surface of my skin and provide a less than lovely bumpy surface. Sigh.
I do schedule regular facials with a knowledgeable esthetician. They seem to help. And it’s true that over scrubbing and too frequently washing can worsen the problem.
Just keep looking for the right esthetician. Someone out there can help.

When I reached perimenopause last year, my acne returned from my teenage years. Except for 1 or 2here and there, i thought they were gone for good. I’ve been using Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit facial wipes, which has tamed them. Good luck!

  8. My skin went cattywampus after the surgeries, so I use different cleansers/moisturizers based on what my skin’s doing each day…

Clean: philosophy’s purity, simply…something?(the green & white bottle), noxema, sometimes oatmeal soap, neutrogena. Astringent clinique numbered liquid if acne

Moisturize: Dr pregger-or-something (blue & red & white) eczema cream, clinique pink spray bottle, clinique pink gel overnight sometimes, clinique anti-aging something or another that costs and arm and a leg but works, eucerin skin calming is my fav & good value, sometimes the yellow clinique, caudelie serum (had a sample), the simply brand moisturizer.

Masks: fresh brand rose, black tea, and deep sea, philosophy purity

  10. I have more problems with acne now than I ever did as teenager! My solutions are pretty simple – drink plenty of water, make sure I cleanse and moisturise every day (Superdrug stuff for me – nothing fancy!) and try to avoid too much sweet stuff/stress. I can always tell when I haven’t been following this…

My skin seems to be naturally oily… I still haven’t figured out if it’s this way because I don’t moisturize enough or if it’s something in my diet that’s affecting my skin. I’m not sure if facial cleansers actually help me either. What I’ve seen is it makes my skin very dry and the next day I am just super oily again.

  18. I’m so annoyed with my skin I’m 33 and still struggle with acne all month. It’s mostly on my chin but they are cystic and humongous! I am on clynsamycin retin A and benzoyl peroxide and still break out. I can’t catch a break and I can’t figure it out. 😔 I envy those people with perfect skin 😠

  19. From what I’ve learnt about skin, my tip would be to do your best to act like there are no flaws there, once I stopped stressing over my skin the breakouts I experienced decreased amazingly! Also trying too many products in a short time period causes irritation meaning your skin has to try and heal that before it can begin healing up the spots themselves. Hope this helps x
